32-year-old leg-spinner Vandersay was a part of Sri Lanka’s T20I squad, and in the last game at Dharamshala, he sustained an injury as he twisted his ankle. Though he joined the Lankans’ practice sessions on Wednesday, reports suggest that the leggie is still not one hundred per cent in terms of his match fitness and will not be able to make the cut for the Mohali Test.

The Lankans have had major injury concerns in the ongoing series. Previously, three important players in Wanindu Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana and Lahiru Kumara were ruled out of the T20I series. Given that they are slightly short of options in terms of their spin contingent, the Sri Lankan team management could replace Vandersay with speedster Lahiru Kumara, who was the leading wicket-taker in the T20I series.
