India’s squad for Sri Lanka T20Is: Hardik Pandya (Captain), Ishan Kishan (wk), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav (VC), Deepak Hooda, Rahul Tripathi, Sanju Samson, Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Harshal Patel, Umran Malik, Shivam Mavi, Mukesh Kumar.
Rahul Tripathi an ideal replacement for Virat Kohli
Rahul Tripathi is one of the many players who has patiently waited for his chance to don the Indian jersey. However, the right-handed batter has warmed the benches so far. Tripathi received his maiden T20I call-up against Ireland earlier this year, but he did not made his debut in that series. With Virat Kohli also rested in the upcoming series against Sri Lanka, Tripathi can be an ideal candidate to bat at the number three position.
Speaking about numbers in IPL, the 31-year-old has played 76 matches and has amassed 1798 runs at an astounding strike rate of 140. Tripathi also has ten fifties to his name and looks comfortable against both spin and pace bowling.
The speed express Shivam Mavi
Shivam Mavi is having time of his life recently. Before getting selected for the India T20 squad vs SL, the 24-year-old pacer was signed by Gujarat Titans for INR 6 crore at the IPL 2023 auction in Kochi.
The base price for Mavi was Rs. 40 Lakh, the highest for an Indian uncapped player.
Mavi has participated in 32 games for Kolkata Knight Riders after making his IPL debut in 2018. He has taken 30 wickets for an 8.71 economy rate. The Rajasthan Royals match in 2021 marked his personal best performance in the competition (4/21).
Mavi also competed for India’s championship-winning Under-19 team in 2018. He participates in domestic cricket for Uttar Pradesh.
The Bengal pacer Mukesh Kumar
Bengal’s Mukesh Kumar earned his maiden T20I call-up following a prolific Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 season.
At the IPL 2023 auction, Mukesh Kumar’s base price was Rs 20 lakhs. However, the Delhi Capitals acquired the 29-year-old for a staggering sum of Rs 5.50 crores.
Mukesh Kumar has got 123 wickets overall in 33 games during his first-class career. He has taken 26 wickets in 24 List A games concurrently. With 25 wickets in 23 T20 matches, Mukesh has also had a successful career in the shortest format.
In the upcoming season of the IPL, Mukesh Kumar will play in a cash-rich league for the first time.
Mukesh Kumar Journey and Struggle
Looking at Mukesh’s struggles, it appears that his effort paid off. He was born in Gopalganj, Bihar, in 1993, and joined the Bengal cricket squad in 2014 after trying out for Vision 2020 at Eden Gardens. However, Mukesh applied for the army but was unsuccessful in getting enlisted before travelling to Kolkata.
In 2012, his father Kashinath, a former taxi driver, invited him from Bihar to West Bengal to help him find employment.
His father was a cab driver in the past. After joining Bani Niketan, a second-level CAB league club, he began playing cricket. He subsequently seized the chance to take part in the Vision 2020 tryouts and ultimately was chosen for the Bengal Ranji Team.
