IND vs SL: IND vs SL 1st ODI – Ishan Kishan will have to wait for his chance despite scoring a double century in his last ODI appearance. Captain Rohit Sharma confirmed Shubman Gill will open the batting in Guwahati with Shikhar Dhawan now out of the equation. Gill has had a phenomenal year in ODIs, keeping Kishan at bay despite his record-breaking 210 against Bangladesh. Follow India vs SriLanka LIVE updates on Insidesport.IN
Rohit Sharma said in his press conference, “Both have done really well. But it is fair that we give Gill a chance to have a fair run. In recent games, Gill has got a lot of runs. So has Ishan. He got a double hundred. I know what it takes to get a double ton. It is a great achievement. But just to be honest and fair to the guys who have done really well before that.”
He added, “It is unfortunate that we won’t be able to play Ishan, but it is fair to give Gill that run looking at how things have panned out in the last 8-9 months. He has done extremely well in that position. Ishan is very unfortunate, but it doesn’t rule out anything.”

In the third ODI versus Bangladesh, Kishan scripted history with his maiden double century in ODIs as he entered an elusive list of players to achieve the massive feat. Kishan joined Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Rohit Sharma in the list of Indian batters to reach the 200-mark in men’s ODIs. By getting his double century in 126 balls, he becomes the fastest to achieve the feat. Despite stroking a historic double century in his last ODI game, Kishan not finding his place in the team might not go down well with the batter.
- Kishan plays at an excellent strike rate of almost 112 in ODIs.
- The 24-year-old might be an ideal partner for Rohit to form a left-right hand combination at the top order.
- Both Kishan and Rohit open for Mumbai Indians in IPL. Hence, both have good understanding between them.
- Kishan’s inclusion in the playing XI will also mean that India has a pure keeper behind the wickets instead of KL Rahul.
