IND vs SL: Sanju Samson – With only one day left for the India squad announcement for Sri Lanka series, cricketer-turned-expert Wasim Jaffer wants Sanju Samson in the squad. The Kerala wicketkeeper batter has done well in the limited opportunities that he has got in white-ball formats in 2022. Yet the management is not giving him a consistent run in the playing XI. Samson is continuously snubbed due to combinations in the Indian team. Jaffer wants that to change and is hoping this time Samson gets a longer run in Sri Lanka and New Zealand Series. I hope Sanju Samson is part of India squads for both T20I and ODI series against SL and NZ. And gets a consistent long run. #INDvSL #INDvNZ

IND vs SL: Will Sanju Samson be given a longer run in 2023? Wasim Jaffer believes the time is right – The wicketkeeper batter played 10 ODIs and only six T20Is for India n 2022. In ODIs, the right-hand batter scored 284 runs at an average of 70 and a strike rate of 103. Samson came in tough situations and also finished matches for India. In T20I, the RR skipper showed versatility and flexibility by batting from number 3 to seven. Samson also is striking runs at a strike rate of 150 plus.
Jaffer believes the wicketkeeper batter has hardly put a foot wrong and deserves more chances. With Rishabh Pant failing in white-ball formats, Jaffer opines time is right for Samson to get an extended run in the Indian team.
IND vs SL: Why Jaffer thinks Samson should be given a longer run?
- Sanju Samson has been unlucky not to cement his place in Team India. Samson had looked promising with the limited opportunity presented to him.
- He was not picked for the T20 World Cup nor he toured with team India to Bangladesh tour.
- Samson is in good form in Ranji cricket having already scored three fifties.
- With Pant as well as KL Rahul struggling in the middle order in T20Is and ODIs, Samson’s attacking play might come in handy.
- With 17 ODIs to be played before the World Cup, Samson can be tried in the middle order or as a finisher.
