IND vs SL: India will kickstart 2023 with a T20I and ODI series against neighbors Sri Lanka. Ahead of the upcoming battle between both the teams, Star Sports, the official broadcaster has released an interesting promo. The series has been labelled as the ‘Road to World Cup Stage-1’. The battle between both the South Asian countries will begin with a three-match T20I series. It kickstarts at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai from 3rd January 2023. After the T20Is, three-match ODI series will be played. The first match will begin at Guwahati on 10th January.

Sri Lanka have good spinners in Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana. They can pose a challenge against a strong Indian batting line-up that is expected to have the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya.

The Men in Blue will take on Sri Lanka after facing defeats in their last two ODI series against New Zealand and Bangladesh respectively. India’s full-time skipper Rohit Sharma is expected to lead the team against Sri Lanka. Rohit is currently recovering from a thumb dislocation injury is expected to be fully fit by the time the series begins.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka last faced Afghanistan in a three-match ODI series, which was tied 1-1. The upcoming ODI series is especially a very crucial one for Sri Lanka. The Island nation is currently at the ninth spot in the ODI Super League points table. They have to win all their remaining matches in order to gain a direct entry in to the 2023 World Cup. Only the top 8 teams will gain an automatic qualification.

The team led by Dasun Shanaka last toured India between February and March 2022. They lost a three-match T20I series 0-3 and also was beaten 0-2 in the subsequent Test series. Much recently, both these teams met during the Asia Cup in Dubai. Sri Lanka won the match by 6 wickets and then went on to win the tournament by defeating Pakistan in the final.
