IND vs SL: Ravi Bishnoi suffers unfortunate blow on face, gets up & takes wicket in same over

Sri Lanka needed 64 runs in the last 5 overs and had seven wickets in hand when Bishnoi was struck on the face.

Ravi Bishnoi is tough as nails. The leg spinner was struck in the face while taking a catch of his own bowling in the India vs Sri Lanka 1st T20I. The 23-year-old got a hand to a caught and bowled opportunity, fell to his right while going for the ball, and instead of grabbing it, all he managed to do was hit himself in the face. You could see that Bishnoi was hurt immediately, as the bowler lay on the ground in pain.

The physio came running out and tended to Bishnoi’s face, which was cut, and blood ran down his cheek. It turns out that the ball ricochets off his palm to hit under his eye. He got his cheek bandaged, but one could visibly see that his left eye swelled up. With just five balls left in his spell, he could have easily walked off. But he didn’t.

He chose to stay in the thick of things and was hit for two boundaries by Kamindu Mendis in the next four balls. With one ball left in his spell, he stood at his bruise. He ran in for one last time and got Sri Lanka’s captain, Charith Asalanka, caught for a 2-ball duck. The game was still in balance then, but that crucial blow tipped things in India’s favour.

Sri Lanka then capsized, scoring just 12 runs and losing 6 wickets in the 20 balls. While all the bowlers chipped in, it was Bishnoi’s never-say-die attitude that sent Asalanka and opened the floodgates.
