Shikhar Dhawan 6000 ODI runs
Shikhar and his partner Prithvi Shaw gave India a solid start in their run chase of 263 against Sri Lanka in the first ODI. The duo added 58 runs for the first wicket. Shaw was removed by Dhananjaya de Silva on 43 in the 6th over of the innings. Shikhar is still at the crease and the team management will want him to play a captain’s knock to help India win the first ODI.
Dhawan loves scoring runs against Sri Lanka. His stats against the country tells you the story. Before this match, he just needed 17 more runs to become to fastest to score 1000 ODI runs against Sri Lanka. He broke the record of South Africa’s Hasim Amla who reached the feat in 18 innings.
Dhawan also became India’s 25th ODI captain at the age of 35 years and 220 days. Dhawan is the oldest Indian to make captaincy debut in fifty overs cricket. He is the third oldest overall to make a captaincy debut as Mohammad Hafeez from Pakistan made his captaincy debut at the age of 36 while West Indies’ Floyd Reifer lead the national side for the first time at the age of 37.
