Former cricketer Zaheer Khan was all praise for wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul after his gritty knock in the 1st IND vs SA Test at Centurion. Rahul was the lone warrior for India on Day 1 as he remained not out on 70 at stumps amid challenging conditions. The wicketkeeper-batter will be eyeing to repeat his 2021 heroics against the Proteas, this time along with a historic series win in the two-match series.

Zaheer Khan all praise for ‘outstanding’ KL Rahul

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Zaheer Khan pointed out that KL Rahul’s batting was one of the biggest positives of Day 1. Coining it as a new beginning for the wicketkeeper-batsman in Tests, the former pacer heaped praise on the outstanding knock amid challenging conditions.

KL Rahul’s batting was one of the biggest positives. This is a new beginning for him in Test matches as a keeper-batter. It was an outstanding knock, and that too in challenging conditions. He played his shots once the lower-order batters came in”, Zaheer Khan said.

Further, he said that India were in a formidable position on Day 1 thanks to Rahul. He added that even if Rahul scores 30 or 40 runs in the 2nd innings, it would be counted as a top-notched ton.

India are only in this position because of him. His footwork was up to the mark, and it looked like he was in a very good zone. If he goes on to score 30-40 runs tomorrow as well, it will surely be counted as a top-notch hundred.”
