IND vs SA Test: Sunil Gavaskar banks on dominant duo to lead India's charge against Proteas

As India Cricket Team prepares to face South Africa in the IND vs SA 1st Test, Sunil Gavaskar has claimed that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will score a lot of runs. The two seniors while feature for the first time after the ODI World Cup loss. But former great Sunil Gavaskar opines that the duo are experienced batters and will score big runs.

India will face the Proteas in a 2 match Test series. But a lot is at stake. Especially with the return of Rohit and Kohli, the Indian Team has received a big boost amidst their ranks.

“They are experienced batters, who are coming after playing everywhere, so I expect them to score lots of runs in these two Test matches. Not only because they have got so much talent, but this time around, I think the South African attack does not have that edge,” Sunil Gavaskar told Star Sports.

Rohit Sharma & Virat Kohli Returns

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli mark their return to the Indian Cricket Team after a short break. The duo ditched white ball cricket for a couple of series after the ODI World Cup debacle. But things are different in red ball cricket. With crucial World Test Championship points up for grabs, the dominant duo returns to the team.

Sunil Gavaskar has banked on the duo to lead India’s charge. He further claimed that the Proteas attack this time doesn’t have the edge to overpower the Indian batter. Gavaskar has hinted that it is the visitors who have a good chance of overpowering the hosts.

“With the absence of Nortje, with the likely absence of Rabada and Lungi Ngidi, the South African attack looks a little bit short on experience, I am not saying short of class. So I feel these two batters will score lots of runs and help the Indian team post a big score,” Gavaskar concluded.

India will look to seal a win and break a 31-year old jinx to win their first Test series in the Rainbow nation. With a lot at stake, it is understood that India will attack their opponent with all guns blazing.
