IND vs SA Test: Ravi Ashwin gets nod ahead of injured Ravindra Jadeja in IND vs SA 1st Test

IND vs SA Test: Ravichandran Ashwin features in IND vs SA 1st Test as Ravindra Jadeja misses with injury

In a surprising turn of events, the India Cricket Team has opted to go for Ravichandran Ashwin in place of Ravindra Jadeja for the IND vs SA 1st Test. Ravindra Jadeja, touted as the number 1 spinner in foreign pitches, has a back spasm. This in turn has has provided an opportunity for Ashwin to feature in this important match.

It was tipped that Jadeja would get the nod ahead of his spin counterpart. Given South Africa’s pitch and weather conditions, Team India couldn’t afford the likes of two spinners in the Test match.

However, at the Toss, India Cricket Team skipper Rohit Sharma claimed that Ravi Ashwin is playing the game as Ravindra Jadeja misses the important match with a back spasm.

We are pretty confident with our squad and the make-up of our squad. We are playing with four seamers and a spinner. Ashwin is playing in place of Jadeja. Jaddu had a bit of a back spasm, so Ashwin comes in and he is a quality spinner to have. Prasidh is making his debut, along with the other pacers Shardul, Siraj and Bumrah,” said Rohit Sharma at the Toss.

As per reports from RevSportz, Ravindra Jadeja complained of upper back spasms in the morning of the Test. As a result he has been deemed unavailable for selection. This in turn has provided a perfect opportunity for Ashwin to play the match as he approaches his landmark of 500 Test wickets.

India Playing XI: Rohit Sharma(c), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul(w), Ravichandran Ashwin, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna
