Tabraiz Shamsi brings back ‘shoe-call’ celebration on special request

In a rain-curtailed India vs South Africa match, the hosts won by five wickets (D/L method), with Tabraiz Shamsi emerging as the star.

In T20I cricket, it is just a rare sight for a bowler to maintain an economy of under six, and when that does happen, it becomes a match-winning performance. That was the case on Tuesday as well, during the India vs South Africa second T20I, at St George’s Park, Gqeberha, where Tabraiz Shamsi returned with figures of 1/18 in his four overs, with an economy of 4.50.

This was brilliant in the context of the match as India went on to score 180/7, with him picking the key wicket of India skipper Suryakumar Yadav, who slammed 56 from 36 deliveries. This called for Shamsi’s famous ‘shoe-call’ celebration, and that is what he gave his fans. Right after picking up the crucial wicket, Shamsi struggled a bit to take off his shoe, but somehow managed to complete the celebration.

After the India vs South Africa match, the 33-year-old talked about his celebration, the wicket of Suryakumar, and how it managed to change the course of the match. “I packed that celebration away, but the kids keep asking me to bring it about, so I can’t disappoint them,” Shamsi said.”
