IND vs SA: Ravi Shastri makes a massive claim on Hardik Pandya, feels the management should not risk the all-rounder by playing him in ODIs

IND vs SA: Why Ravi Shastri thinks Hardik Pandya should not be risked playing in ODIs?

  • Shastri feels the GT skipper has had success in the shortest format of the game and the management should only try to focus on that
  • The former India coach further opined that Pandya’s current form in T20 cricket should be capitalized
  • Shastri added that Pandya’s massive impact with both bat and ball is a huge bonus for the side
  • The 60-year-old concluded by saying that with T20 World Cup scheduled to take place in 2022, India should look to play him in the only T20 format and not ODIs

“He will walk back into that squad for me either as a batter or as an all-rounder. I don’t think he is that badly injured where he cannot bowl you two overs. He has had ample rest and he will continue to have ample rest because that’s the only format he should play going into the World Cup. They shouldn’t take the risk of making him play ODI cricket,” said Shastri in Star Sports’ Game Plan.

IND vs SA: Ravi Shastri believes Pandya is a huge asset to the side

Pandya scored 487 runs and took 8 wickets in 15 matches for GT. He proved to be effective in crucial stages of the game. Shastri reckons Pandya is a huge asset for any team. “Massive, he does the job for two players. A Hardik Pandya playing just as a batter would mean he has to bat in the top four or five but Hardik Pandya playing as an all-rounder, he can bat at five, six, or four and still bowl those two-three overs for you,” said the former India head coach.
