IND vs SA ODIs: No Rohit Sharma for ODI series against South Africa at home, Shikhar Dhawan to lead, T20 WC bound players set to be rested: Follow LIVE UpdatesThe decision to rest the T20 World Cup bound players makes sense with the India-South Africa series ending on October 11. It would mean that the players will not have much time before their World Cup campaign starts.
“All T20 players will be rested from the ODI series since World Cup will not be long away. Shikhar will lead the side if he is fit that time. It’s too early to say what the composition will be. But we will look into players who will not be in the World Cup squad,” a member of the selection committee told InsideSport.
Resting the players will help them to stay fresh for the big ICC event in Australia. Playing them in the South Africa series would also invite injuries, and the team management want to avoid any last minute changes from the original squad.

For the same, India will be keeping a close tab on the Asia Cup 2022, which starts later in the month. A good Asia Cup for the fringe players will only strengthen their case while players like Virat Kohli and KL Rahul would love to get back to form.
After the Asia Cup, the Indian players will still be involved in some T20 action. Before the South Africa ODI series, India will host Australia in a three-match series from September 20-25. They will also play three T20 matches from September 28-October 4.
