Notably, Jayawardene has revealed that he has been scouting Jansen since 2018, and back in IPL 2021, he bought the pacer for Mumbai Indians. Though Jansen currently plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Jayawardene remains a big admirer of the 22-year-old.

Speaking to ICC, the head coach of Mumbai Indians said “He has got a good head as well, likes to learn things. He is a complete package as well, he can bat. He is a great asset for South Africa to have – a young cricketer coming through to add to a good fast bowling unit that they have with Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje.”
“The strengths of Marco is high. He is still growing and is going to get stronger. He will generate more pace, and with the more and more games that he plays, he is going to develop his skillset. Wherever in the world he is bowling, he is always going to trouble batters with the new ball,” Jayawardene further added.

Meanwhile, Jansen is likely to be handed his T20I debut in this series, having already played Test and ODI cricket for the Proteas. He has picked up 28 wickets in his five Test matches so far, while as for the ODI format, he has scalped 2 wickets in as many matches.
