Chahar, who last played one game for India during the Asia Cup against Afghanistan, replaced Jasprit Bumrah for the first T20I at Tiruvananthapuram on Wednesday and made immediate impact with the new ball. Opening the bowling, the right arm pacer made first use of the pitch and made the ball swing in both ways.
He set up Bavuma beautifully by bowling three successive outswingers shaping away from the batsman. Under pressure after conceding three consecutive dot balls, Bavuma tried to play an expansive drive in the last ball of the over. However this time, Chahar bowled a beautiful in-swinger that shaped in and crashed the stumps as Bavuma departed for a duck after playing four balls.

Chahar came back in his next over and dismissed Tristan Stubbs that left the visitors reeling at 14/5 after three overs.
Chahar is in action in just his second T20I game since his recovery from a quadricep tear and a back injury that made him sit out of action for nearly six months during which he missed the IPL as well. He made his return to the Indian side after achieving full fitness during the ODI series against Zimbabwe in August this year. He has been named as a reserve player in India’s 2022 T20 World Cup squad.
