In an interview with Paras Mhambrey, Shardul Thakur said: “Seriously don’t know what started naming me LORD but I am sure it started when we returned from Australia in home series against England just before IPL. I took two consecutive wickets in the over, from there the name originated.”
Shardul Thakur said he plays to win and like the players who love to win the game.
“When I enter the ground, everything is about confidence and self-belief for me. I go in with full confidence, there’s no second chance. So, I think it’s a simple and small mantra for my success in recent days. I would like to continue the same form whenever I play. And I always play to win. Even when I look at the other players. I like the players who love to win the game for the team,” he said in the video.
Shardul said that he got natural help from the pitch to help script a record 7 wickets against Proteas and put India in the driver’s seat.
“I was just trying to pitch the ball in the right spot, looking at my bowling, there was natural help from the pitch. So, tried a little bit of swing here & there. I am very happy about it (getting 7 wickets), wonderful performance and happy to have contributed to the team,” Shardul stressed.

Shardul Thakur was elated after receiving appreciation from legendary Sachin Tendulkar. “Congratulations to @imShard on picking up 7 wickets with his steady bowling and variations. Good support by the others,” the legend wrote on Twitter.
“Well, It’s my pleasure that ‘God of Cricket’ himself has tweeted about me. He’s been a fellow and I have played with him a few games. He’s always supported me as a youngster and it’s always good to hear from him. A big morale boost always,” he signed off.
