IND vs SA LIVE: No Rohit Sharma, No Problem – Mayank Agarwal aces South Africa test with gritty half-century
Mayank Agarwal showcased his class and was up to the task and scores just his fourth half-century away from home on Day 1 of the IND vs SA 1st Test. Agarwal saw off a feisty spell from Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi before plundering runs off Marco Jannsen for boundaries. The Indian opener was assured outside the off stump and had a reprieve after Quinton de Kock dropped him on 36.
Mayank Agarwal set up a brilliant opening partnership with KL Rahul, as the two openers scored 83 off the first session. The innings was timely especially with Rohit Sharma out injured, and Agarwal took his opportunity with both hands. Mayank Agarwal’s fifty also puts him up in the pecking order, ahead of the likes of Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw as India’s 3rd opener.
It marks his 2nd consecutive half-century after his startling 150 in the first innings of the 2nd Test vs New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium. Mayank had struggled to break into the team after losing his spot to Gill and KL Rahul earlier but now has again pulled himself into contention.
