IND vs SA LIVE: Gym-freak Virat Kohli preaches FITNESS Mantra, says ‘Fitness more important than cricket practice’ – Check why?
“Fitness for me is probably more important than having cricket practice. I honestly feel that having a fit body makes you think better as well. So, it could help people in their work, sport, anything. When you’re fit, you just want to start your day well, look forward to doing a lot more, on an everyday basis rather than just dragging yourself through the day,” Kohli said in an interview with the International Cricket Council (ICC).

So what is the mindset behind prioritising fitness? – Kohli was a chubby kid when he first came to the scene during the U-19 World Cup in 2008. Since then, there has been a drastic change in his physique which has also turned him into a better athlete.
It was in 2014 that Kohli started putting relentless effort into physical training under the watchful eyes of former India strength and conditioning coach Shankar Basu. And even now, the prolific run-scorer, believes that fitness is a key to success in any field as it helps a person to think better.

“I try to stay fit because if I have a moment where I can make a difference when there is pressure and I don’t have the bat in hand it doesn’t mean that my job is over. You can always change the game with your fielding, energy, and enthusiasm,” Kohli explained.
Virat has already made his mark in the tournament with back-to-fifties. Against Pakistan, his fitness was proof after he made some acrobatic saves on the field. In the warm-up game vs Australia, Kohli pulled off a stunning leap to catch Pat Cummins on the fence.
The chase master has looked in fine form in the T20 World Cup 2022 as has scored two consecutive half-centuries. But his real test awaits against South Africa in Perth on Sunday. India would hope that the 33-year-old can continue his good form and virtually seal a semi-final berth for Team India on Sunday.
