After warming the bench in the first game, Shikhar Dhawan handed Shahbaz Ahmed his maiden international cap in the India vs South Africa 2nd ODI in Ranchi. The left-arm spinner shot to prominence after a fine performance with both bat and ball during the 2022 season for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and stateside Bengal.
In Ranchi, Dhawan introduced the left-arm spinner in the first powerplay and got his reward as he dismissed a well-set Janneman Malan for 20. It took him only two overs to get off the mark in international cricket. he followed it with some good bowling keeping the batsmen in check. In his 10 overs, the 27-year-old conceded at less than 6 an over, finishing with figures of 1/54.
