IND vs SA LIVE: India suffer another collapse – At 272/3, India were in a comfortable position at the end of Day 1. But the washout of Day 2 seemed to work against India’s plans completely as well. On Day 3, India suffered a collapse, losing seven wickets for just 55 runs with KL Rahul adding just one run to his overnight score while Ajinkya Rahane adding only 8. The collapse was disappointing, to say the least. KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal put India at 117/0 setting the stage. With KL Rahul and Ajinkya Rahane resuming on Day 3 after Day 2 was washed out, disaster struck. The two set batsmen had to rework their gameplan and they failed in their approach. The wrecker in chief was Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada on Day 3. Kagiso Rabada bagged 3/72 while Ngidi returned with 6/71.

KL Rahul – IND 278/4: Just 10 minutes into Day 3 and KL Rahul was dismissed. Kagiso Rabada struck early after going wicketless on Day 1. His short delivery down the leg side was going away but KL Rahul poked it and Quinton de Kock grabbed it easily.

Ajinkya Rahane – 291/5: Ajinya Rahane had to play well not just for India but for his career as well. While he did brilliantly on Day 1, reaching 40, on Day 3, all his hard work was wiped out by a single poor judgement. Lungi Ngidi managed to find some extra bounce and Rahane nicked it to De Kock. It was nothing short of a harakiri as Rahane had left such deliveries on Day 1. But on Tuesday, he attempted one and the ball took an edge. He could only add 8 runs to his overnight score.

96.4 Ngidi finds extra bounce and has Rahane nicking off. Both the set batters at gone. Kicks up from a back of a length and zipping away outside off. Rahane throws his hands at a punch and edges it behind to the keeper. He falls two short of a half-century 291/5

R Ashwin – 296/6: Ashwin was the designated all-rounder after his exploits with the bat in home conditions. However, he didn’t look comfortable on Tuesday. His five-ball stay had a boundary but he too failed against a Rabada. A back of the length delivery and he tried to push it down to the leg side, only to give away a simple catch to Keshav Maharaj with a leading edge with the score reading just 296.

Rishabh Pant: 296/7: A lot have been talked about Rishabh Pant’s charismatic batting. But that he has repeatedly failed in England should be a lesson for him and the selectors. Against moving ball, he has failed and has shown lack of maturity time and again. A shorter delivery and Pant found an inside edge, scoring just 8.

Shardul Thakur: 304/8: Another designated all-rounder to bite dust was Shardul Thakur and after his heroics in Australia and England, a lot was expected of him. Yet, he could only manage 4.

Mohammed Shami: 308/9: Shami proved he could bat and at Lord’s he did prove a point. However, in Centurion, his stay was as brief as his yorkers. His eight-run innings included two boundaries.

In the end, India lost all seven remaining wickets for 55 runs to surrender their advantage.
