Virat Kohli will hope that the New Year brings about a change in his fortunes with the bat and the Indian captain has a couple of milestones he could achieve during the IND vs SA 2nd Test. Kohli is on the verge of becoming the leading run-scorer for a visiting batter in Test matches at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.
The Indian needs only 7 runs to overtake former New Zealand batter John Reid who holds the record with 316 runs. Virat Kohli was in fine form at the Wanderers during India’s tour of South Africa in 2013. He scored a stunning 119 in the first innings and followed it up with 96 in the second as India managed to hold onto a draw in Johannesburg. In 2018, Virat Kohli, now captain, led from the front to hit 54 in the first innings and followed it up with 41 in the 2nd as India clinched a famous victory on a difficult pitch.

Captain Virat Kohli is also closing in on the landmark of 8,000 Test runs and could become only the sixth Indian batter to reach the milestone. Another batsman who could reach a milestone is Ajinkya Rahane, who is just 137 runs away from scoring 5000 Test runs. Rahane will leapfrog MS Dhoni’s tally of runs in Tests if he manages to score just 13, with the former Indian captain having scored 4876 runs in his career.
