IND vs SA 3rd ODI: New role for Sanju Samson, No Tilak Varma as Team India target win in series decider

No Tilak Varma as Sanju Samson to don new role in IND vs SA ODI series finale

The India Cricket Team will be ready to go full throttle in the IND vs SA 3rd ODI. But the Men in Blue are in for aa few changes and tweaks in their line-up. Most notably is the inclusion of Rajat Patidar in place of Tilak Varma. Sanju Samson is also in for a change. The Rajasthan Royals skipper might be promoted up the order, which will do the Kerala batter a great deal of good.

With series on the line, the Indian cricket team are desperate for a win. Tilak Varma will be the first player to be dropped into the bench after a string of poor performances. On the other hand, KL Rahul will be excited to see how Rajat Patidar fairs in the all important game of the ODI series.

No Tilak Varma?

It is no surprise that Tilak Varma finds himself out of the playing XI. The young and destructive southpaw has failed to live up to the standards that he has set. After good performances in the IND vs AUS T20I series, he started dropping stinkers against the Proteas.

Moreover with no Shreyas Iyer in the team, there is a need for a change in the middle order. So who comes into the team? Rajat Patidar is the most deserving candidate. A master in chase and an adept finisher, he will slot in the Number 5 role and will accompany Rinku Singh who comes in at number 6.

Change for Sanju Samson

With Tilak Varma dropping to the bench, who gains the most? It is Sanju Samson. The dependable batter is dying to prove his worth and become a mainstay in the Indian team. Sanju failed to get a chance to bat in the first match as India won by 8 wickets. On the other hand, he failed to bag a big score in the second game.

But now on likely being promote up the order at number, Samson gets a wonderful opportunity to free his arms and bat. Batting at 3 will be no problem for Samson. He is one of the most versatile batters in the team and is capable of batting on any position from 1 to 7.

Though Samson’s usual spot is number 5, which is predominantly an anchor role, he can get to be the aggressor and the enforcer playing at Number 3. He will also get the company of KL Rahul who will come to bat next and will be hopeful of stitching a big partnership for the Men in Blue.
