Cricketing legends Sunil Gavaskar and Shaun Pollock were all praise for Rohit Sharma‘s captaincy as India outfoxed the Proteas in the 1st innings of the 2nd IND vs SA Test. Opting to bat first at Cape Town, South Africa were steamrolled by pacer Mohammed Siraj, with assistance from Bumrah and Mukesh.
Captain Rohit Sharma showered with praise by legends
Speaking on commentary during India’s innings, the former cricketers lauded the Hitman, with Sunil Gavaskar calling it the ‘best days for Sharma as captain’. The former Indian batter noted that the skipper had the courage to make a comeback after the loss at Centurion and get rid of the hosts for just 55 in the 1st innings.
“This day will go down as best days of Rohit Sharma the captain. From coming back after loss to getting South Africa for 55 in Frist session, you need courage for that and he showed it,” Sunil Gavaskar said.
Pollock gives Sharma credit for Elgar’s wicket
Former South African pacer Shaun Pollock rated Sharma’s captaincy as ‘top-notch’, acknowledging that this Indian side was more dominant than the sides he’s seen before. He further credited the Indian skipper for Dean Elgar’s wicket, pointing out that he knew his Proteas counterpart would play that shot and positioned himself at that position.
“I will give Elgar’s wicket credit to Rohit Sharma, knowing that Elgar plays flick shot frequently Rohit he himself came there and forced Elgar to play at offside, well done Rohit,” Shaun Pollock said.
The India bowling unit was on fire in the opening session of the IND vs SA 2nd Test. In just 23.2 overs, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, and Prasidh Krishna finished South Africa’s first innings.
