Former Indian cricketer Deep Dasgupta has opined that Ravichandran Ashwin will have to sit out to make way for Ravindra Jadeja in IND vs SA 2nd Test, starting on Wednesday in Cape Town.
While acknowledging that dropping Ashwin after just one game wouldn’t be fair, Deep Dasgupta claimed that due to seaming conditions at Newlands, one spinner would be sufficient.
“I will be very honest. It is a little unfair to drop a player after just one game. However, Ravindra Jadeja is your first XI player. If he is fit, he comes in XI”, Deep Dasgupta said on Star Sports.

“Newlands is seamer friendly. Since stadium is closer to sea, the high and low tides will help seamers to find movement. So, I would be looking at more seamers than spinners”, the former Indian cricketer added.
Despite taking only one wicket in the Centurion Test, Ashwin emerged as India’s second-best bowler after Jasprit Bumrah in restricting the Proteas batters.
