Following a dominating 8 wicket victory in the 1st ODI, a young India Cricket Team will look to secure series win against the Proteas in IND vs SA 2nd ODI. In a rather meaningless ODI series, the Men in Blue will be keen to bag a victory and seal the series at St George’s Park in Gqeberha.
With focus mainly on T20Is and Test cricket, the ODI series is a mere formality. Headed by KL Rahul and a rather young Indian contingent, it was India who humiliated the Proteas in Johannesburg. Arshdeep Singh bagged a fifer while Avesh Khan scalped a four-fer to end proceedings for SA at 116.
Debutant Sai Sudharsan hammered a fifty followed by another blistering half century by Shreyas Iyer as India wrapped up the game in less than 17 overs to take a 1-0 lead. The next target, replicate the same and win the series in the next ODI.
Changes in India Cricket Team
There will be a few changes in the India Playing XI. Shreyas Iyer who will turn his focus in the 2 upcoming Test matches will not feature in the 2nd and 3rd ODI. This means that a gap has opened up at the number 3 spot. This essentially means that a selection conundrum will take place.
Rinku Singh who was eager for his ODI debut in the first game, might have his wish granted. He will get his much awaited debut at the number 6 spot. Further more, in the absence of Iyer, Tilak Varma might be pushed up the order to bat at number 3 spot. Rajat Patidar, Yuzvendra Chahal will be also be vying for a spot in the team.
For the Proteas, they will have to work from the scratch. Not only a batting collapse, the bowling to was rather poor. Despite missing the likes of some of the key players in the squad, the Proteas will seek this opportunity to re-group and come in hard at the India Cricket Team.
