South Africa opener Dean Elgar smashed a brilliant ton to pile on the misery on Indian bowlers as the hosts cruised to 256/5 at stumps on Day 2 of the IND vs SA 1st Test at Centurion on Wednesday.
Elgar, who will bow out from international cricket after this series, combined with debutant David Bedingham (56) in a 131-run stand to nullify KL Rahul’s valiant effort in first innings.
Resuming on the overnight score of 208/8, Team India were pushed to 245 on the back of KL Rahul’s brilliant century.

While Team India came out with full confidence to push the hosts back with quick wickets, Dean Elgar dashed that plan in first two sessions.
Despite getting rid of Aiden Markram early, Team India failed to tighten screws on the hosts as Elgar and Tony de Zorzi (28) scored freely.
Virat Kohli’s “flip the bails, flip the luck” mantra worked for a brief moment with Jasprit Bumrah getting rid of De Zorzi and Keegan Petersen (2) in next two overs. However, Elgar and Bedingham combined to cash in on India’s dull bowling after lunch.
While Siraj and Prasidh managed to get two quick wickets late in the evening, Elgar’s unbeaten 140-run knock ensured it turn out to be South Africa’s day.
