Indian fast-bowler Prasidh Krishna was handed a debut in the IND vs SA 1st Test. However, Krishna has been far from impressive in the ongoing match. However, former Indian cricketer Sanjay Bangar refused to read too much into Krishna’s tough debut, and compared Prasidh Krishna’s debut to Jasprit Bumrah’s.
Prasidh had a dream start to his South Africa tour, claiming a fifer in the India A vs South Africa A. The fast bowler finished with impressive figures of 5/43 in the match, including a hattrick. His strong performance in that match helped him earn his debut in the ongoing IND vs SA 1st Test over Mukesh Kumar. However, his start in the International Test circuit has been far from perfect.
Prasidh went for a fair share of runs as Dean Elgar stood strong for the Proteas in the middle. His economy rate looked especially worrying, with the right-arm quick conceding almost 5 runs per over.
However, Sanjay Bangar did not appear too worried about Prasidh Krishna conceding runs, and said it is still ‘early days’ for Prasidh Krishna.
“I feel this can happen. This has happened to somebody like a Jasprit Bumrah as well. I still remember the first Test which happened in Cape Town. On Day 1, he went for 60-70 runs. After that he resorted to his natural length, which is hitting the length hard,” Bangar said while speaking on Star Sports.
“That’s what you saw, the clear of point of difference that the team management was hoping from Prasidh might not come into great effect in the first spell itself. But in the second spell, we saw if he can stick to that length of hitting the deck hard and not go searching for swing, he can still be a handful. Early days for Prasidh, but he is not the only one who has had a sort of a below-average start to his Test career,” Bangar added.
