Beware Rohit Sharma & Co! South Africa vow to ‘unleash full’ pace attack vs India

Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi's availability in question, Gerald Coetzee may step in.

IND vs SA 1st Test: As the highly anticipated Test series between South Africa and India looms, South Africa’s coach, Shukri Conrad, has expressed confidence in unleashing a full pace attack against the visiting Indian team in the first Test scheduled to begin in Pretoria on Tuesday.

Despite concerns over the fitness of fast bowlers Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi, Conrad affirmed that both players are currently part of the squad, leaving the door open for their potential inclusion in the upcoming match. “They are both here with us, and that means they are available for selection as things stand,” Conrad assured during a press briefing.

While the final decision on Rabada and Ngidi’s participation is yet to be determined, the 23-year-old firebrand fast bowler, Gerald Coetzee, may fill the void if needed. Coetzee, who showcased his skills with a notable performance in the recent 50-over World Cup in India, is likely to feature on the pace-friendly Centurion Park wicket.

IND vs SA 1st Test: Coetzee inexperienced

Acknowledging Coetzee’s relative inexperience in Test cricket, Conrad expressed confidence in the young bowler’s abilities. “He’s still a baby in Test cricket. He’s been phenomenal every time he’s stepped onto the field, whether it be with the white ball in his hand or the red one. This is just going to be another step,” Conrad remarked.

Gerald Coetzee, who impressed with nine wickets in the two Tests against West Indies earlier this year, brings a valuable combination of aggression and pace to the South African bowling line-up. Conrad envisions Coetzee’s continued growth and potential leadership in the bowling attack in the years to come.

With India eyeing a historic Test series win in South Africa, Conrad emphasized his team’s determination to maintain their proud record of never having lost to India on home soil. “If it was possible to make this even bigger, then the fact that India have never won here does that,” he stated.

As the series unfolds, Conrad highlighted the significance of key matchups and the high-pressure nature of the two-Test series, likening it to a heavyweight boxing bout. The outcome of the initial encounter will set the tone for the remainder of the series, creating an intense and closely watched battle between the two cricketing giants.
