India Cricket Team’s batting conundrum continues. The number 5 spot faces a strong battle between Sanju Samson vs Tilak Varma. Though the ODI series will be a mere formality, it will be a tough job for Rahul Dravid and the board to find the perfect batter for the coveted spot.
India’s ODI skipper for the series, KL Rahul has made it clear that he will keep wickets and will bat in the middle order. Therefore it can be assumed that KL will bat at number 4. He further added that Rinku Singh will bat number 6 which is the spot for the designated finisher in the team.
This in turn brings out the conundrum for finding the batter at number 5. Someone on whom the team can depend and act as the anchor for the team.
Sanju Samson vs Tilak Varma
After back to back snubs in the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup, Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson got his call up for the ODI series. He will be keen to prove his worth and become a mainstay for the Men in Blue. Samson over the years has failed to establish himself as a dependable middle order batter.
On the other hand, challenging Samson for the spot will Mumbai Indian’s young southpaw Tilak Varma. The 22 year old has featured in only 1 ODI match against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup. Proving to be a dependable asset for the Men in Blue, albeit in the limited format, Tilak Varma will seek this opportunity to showcase his power-hitting abilities in ODIs before the T20 World Cup.
