India v Pakistan: Asia Cup Super Four stage, Dubai (4 September 2022)
Although recent clashes between the two sides have tended to be one-sided affairs, the most recent game between India and Pakistan was extremely close. The first innings of India got off to an excellent start with the score at 54 when Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 28 at the start of the sixth over.
With wickets dropping often throughout the middle overs, the scoring rate slowed, but Virat Kohli’s elegant fifty-four helped to keep the innings together. In the last over, Kohli was run out for 60 from 44 balls.
Although Pakistan could have chased down India’s total of 181/7, it felt like a solid score nonetheless. However, when Babar Azam was caught for 14 by Ravi Bishnoi during the Powerplay, the chase appeared to be a little more difficult.
With Mohammad Rizwan hitting 50 once again before being dismissed for 71 off 51 deliveries in the 17th over, his customary anchor performance kept Pakistan very much in the game. Mohammad Nawaz gave Pakistan the lead with a quick-fire 42 off just 20 balls.
The game was practically finished after Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s penultimate over, which gave away 19 runs, was delivered. With 16 (8), Asif Ali propelled his team on the verge of triumph. Khushdil Shah and Iftikhar Ahmed also led their team to victory despite Khushdil being out in the final over. Iftikhar did it with one delivery still to spare.
India v Pakistan: Asia Cup group stage match, Dubai (28 August, 2022)
India won the second game of the Asia Cup, the first of two meetings between the two teams at the competition, in a tense, closely contested contest. Early on, Bhuvneshwar Kumar struck first with the dismissal of Babar Azam. Before Mohammad Rizwan and Iftikhar Ahmed put up a 45-run stand for the third wicket, Fakhar Zaman also fell in the final over of the Powerplay, but the batsman didn’t appear to be at the top of his game.
With a flurry of short balls that resulted in three wickets in his two overs, Hardik Pandya broke the back of Pakistan’s innings. Shahnawaz Dahani’s final couple of powerful hits pushed his team’s total to a respectable 147.
KL Rahul was dismissed for a golden duck after Naseem Shah struck off the first ball of the innings. It was challenging for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to score easily due to the excellent bowling of Pakistan. When Rohit and Kohli tried to accelerate against Mohammad Nawaz’s spin, they both fell in the space of eight balls, costing India both of their key players.
Ravindra Jadeja was moved up the order to counter the leg spin and left-arm spin that Pakistan’s players were using. He contributed 36 runs for the fourth wicket with Suryakumar Yadav to keep India in reach. India needed 59 runs to win from 34 when Hardik Pandya walked out to bat at the time of Suryakumar’s wicket falling.
After showing his excellent all-around skills with the ball, Hardik once again displayed them with the bat. In the last over, he hit three boundaries against Haris Rauf to reduce the equation to 7 off 6. Even though India lost Jadeja on the first ball of the final over, Hardik came through with a six to end the game in style and start India’s campaign.
India v Pakistan: T20 World Cup group stage match, Dubai (24 October 2021)
When India takes the field in their Asia Cup opener, they won’t be carrying the best impressions of the Dubai International Stadium. India suffered their first-ever World Cup defeat to Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium, where Babar Azam’s team had just defeated their arch-rivals.
With two rippers, Shaheen Afridi, who was unplayable in his initial spell, removed Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul from the game. In addition to scoring another fifty against Pakistan, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant’s partnership kept India’s innings together. Unfortunately, India’s remaining batting collapsed as they limped to 151/7 in 20 overs.
In response, Pakistan sailed past the target with 10 wickets in hand. Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, the opening duo, maintained composure throughout the entire innings as they stitched together an unbroken 152-run partnership to secure a famous victory over India.
India v Pakistan: Cricket World Cup group stage match, Manchester (16 June 2019)
The two teams faced up on the biggest stage amid pomp and ceremony, but the match fell short of the high hopes as India defeated Pakistan in a lopsided match.
Rohit Sharma was in the right frame of mind to play against Pakistan and put up a clinic with the bat after scoring a hundred and fifty in the previous games of the tournament. As Rohit slammed a 113-ball 140, the bowlers were all baffled by the outstanding Indian batter and were unable to get past the fort.
Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam steered the ship after Imam-ul-early Haq’s dismissal, and with their century partnership, they began to appear menacing. It required a particular delivery from Kuldeep Yadav to get past Babar’s defense, which proved to be the game’s turning point.
The next few overs saw a deluge of wickets fall, as Pakistan, chasing 302 in 40 overs in a rain-shortened match, could only muster 212/6 as India extended their unbeaten streak in the 50-over World Cup against their archrivals to 7-0.
India v Pakistan: Asia Cup Super Four match, Dubai (23 September, 2018)
2018’s Asia Cup saw a repeat between India and Pakistan, and the outcome was just as lopsided as it had been in the previous match. Early wickets put Pakistan on the back foot, but skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed and Shoaib Malik held things together with a 107-run stand for the fourth wicket, preventing them from faltering. Pakistan’s 237/7 total was competitive thanks in part to Malik’s final score of 78 and a few lusty hits from Asif Ali in the dying stages.
With their opening stand in the reply, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan each got a century and erased 210 runs off the target. India romped home with nine wickets left, and Pakistan’s only cause for joy was Shikhar Dhawan’s run-out.
