The former Indian captain, Rahul reveals, is not affected by the outside noise and his focus remains on winning matches for India. He however revealed that Kohli did work on his game ahead of his much awaited India return.

Rahul added, “He doesn’t get affected by what people see from outside. The standard Virat Kohli has set, he is hungry and wants to win matches for the country. We don’t really give much importance to comments. It doesn’t really affect a player, especially a world-class player like Virat will not be affected by what people are saying on the outside. He has had a little break & he is working on his game.”

Asia Cup 2022 LIVE: What has gone wrong with Virat Kohli?

  • The first thing that everyone including Sunil Gavaskar has pointed out is the lack of self-confidence.
  • Kohli hasn’t looked his self since the pandemic-induced break.
  • The six months without any cricket or practice hurt him the most as he lost his rhythm.
  • To get out of the slump, Kohli tried to be more attacking.
  • But instead, he suffered. A flurry of golden ducks included playing shots early with timings all over the place.
  • While he showed glimpses of his class, he failed to sustain that for long.
  • He stepped down from all captaincy duties to deal with his form but that did not help in anyway.
  • Instead, he failed to get his head position right while trying to play his signature cover drives and more often than not gave away his wicket.
  • The non-stop nature of cricket since then hasn’t even given Kohli time to rectify his mistakes.
  • He decided to take a month-long break to get things in order before the Asia Cup 2022.

The 33-year-old has not scored a century in any format of the game for more than 1000 days. In his last tour of England, Kohli’s best score was 20 across seven innings. Rahul however revealed that the team were far from worried as Virat remains a world-class player.

He said, “We all want Virat Kohli to get back in form, we’re not worried about it. His mindset always remains the same, to win matches for India and he’s done that for many years. Virat Kohli is World class player.”
