During Thursday’s practice session, Wasim Jr felt back pain while bowling. He was taken to the hospital for MRI. Following MRI scan results, he was ruled out. Hasan Ali, who was discarded due to lack of form, has been recalled. “The findings were discussed with the PCB Medical Advisory Committee, while an independent review by a specialist physiotherapist was also sought,” the PCB said in a brief statement.

Pakistan are scheduled to take on traditional rivals India on Sunday. Wasim’s injury has caused panic for the team management as the national team is already without their main bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi. Shaheen sustained a knee injury and was forced to miss the Asia Cup.

IND vs PAK LIVE: After Shaheen Afridi, another injury scare in PAKISTAN camp, ‘pacer Mohammad Wasim Jr taken for MRI’: Follow Asia Cup 2022 LIVE UPDATES

Wasim, who turned 21 on Thursday, complained of pain in his lower back during a bowling session at the ICC Academy.

PCB confirmed that he underwent an MRI scan. Wasim has been part of each of the team’s three training sessions since arriving in Dubai on Tuesday.

Hasan Ali, who was dropped from the squad following Sri Lanka tour, will depart for Dubai after the technical committee’s approval. Ali has been working on his bowling at the National High-Performance Centre and is currently in Rawalpindi. He was to play in the National T20 Championships which begins on August 30.  

He had been working on his bowling in the National High-Performance Centre for the past three weeks and is presently in Rawalpindi, preparing for the National T20, which commences on August 30.

After the Asia Cup, Pakistan are set to play England in seven T20Is at home. This will be followed by a tri-series in New Zealand before they head to Australia. At the Asia Cup, they could possibly play five games in 12 days should they make the Super Four stage.

Wasim has so far featured in 11 T20Is since his debut last July against West Indies. He has picked up 17 wickets at an average of 15.88 and an economy of 8.10.Wasim was particularly impressive in the home series against Australia this March, where he picked up five wickets in three ODIs as Pakistan overturned a 1-0 deficit to clinch the series.
