Left: Shubman Gill also faced similar situation but luckily he hit the delivery. Right: Hardik Pandya dismissal. What exactly happened?
Hardik Pandya missed a Daryl Mitchell delivery thanks to extra bounce. The ball had apparently hit the stumps as the lights went off. The on-field umpires quickly referred it to the TV umpire.
Replays showed there was no bat involved. Instead, the bails came off as Tom Latham’s gloves touched the bail. The bails falling in front also confirmed that the bails were dislodged from behind and not by the ball. It left Hardik Pandya furious with the incident as he walked off helplessly.
Even Daryl Mitchell was surprised with the decision but NewZealand did not call Hardik Pandya back to continue batting.
Hardik was batting on 28 from 38 deliveries. He added 74 runs off just 67 balls with Shubman gill. However, as the fate would have it, Hardik departed to end the stand.
