With no Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli available for the 1st Test, Ajinkya Rahane & Co will be forced to field Shubman Gill and Mayank Agarwal as the openers. KL Rahul will undergo rehabilitation at the NCA to prepare for the South Africa tour.
“Team India batsman Mr. KL Rahul has sustained a muscle strain on his left thigh and has been ruled out of the upcoming 2-match Paytm Test series against New Zealand. He will now undergo rehabilitation at NCA in preparation for the series against South Africa scheduled next month,” BCCI said in a statement.

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Mr. Suryakumar Yadav as KL Rahul’s replacement,” BCCI added.

@16:00: Mayank Agarwal and Shubman Gill are all set to open. That also means either Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer will make his Test debut.
@15:50: On Monday, Suryakumar Yadav was added to the Test squad. While the BCCI didn’t officially confirm the news on Monday, the Indian board has now confirmed that he has been named as replacement for injured KL Rahul.
