IND vs NZ: “SKY is not the limit but should be the benchmark” – Suryakumar Yadav turned his back on his dreadful form and returned to his very best in the first T20I against New Zealand on Wednesday. The Mumbai Indians star has developed into one of the middle order stalwarts for India in his short career at the international level and put in a player of the match performance in Jaipur. Yadav however was mindful of not resting on his laurels and hoped that his heroics were just the beginning.
IND vs NZ: “SKY is not the limit but should be the benchmark” – Suryakumar Yadav dedicates player of the match award to wife
Suryakumar Yadav was particularly cheerful after his stellar showing helped India clinch a 1-0 series lead against New Zealand on Wednesday. Yadav top-scored with a stunning 62, keeping the required run-rate under check, with Rishabh Pant finishing the job in the final over of the innings.
Suryakumar told Ravichandran Ashwin in a video posted on bcci.tv that he did not do anything different, but backed himself and his preparation. He said, “I think the sky is not the limit, going forward it should be a benchmark. Really loved the way things went for me on the ground, just wanted to bat in the same way like I was doing in the nets. I think New Zealand’s preparation was really good, they did not let me explore the cover drive option so I had to play other shots.”

IND vs NZ: “SKY is not the limit but should be the benchmark” – Suryakumar Yadav dedicates player of the match award to wife
Suryakumar Yadav received a reprieve from Trent Boult, who shockingly dropped a sitter on the fence. Yadav and Boult are teammates at Mumbai Indians, and the Indian batsman thanked him during the post-match presentation, revealing that it was his wife’s birthday and dedicated the player of the match performance to her.
“I played out Mitchell Santner, this is the call me and Rohit took. Really disappointed, would have loved to finish the game. It was my wife’s birthday so I dedicate my Man of the Match award to her,” he added.
Suryakumar Yadav had earlier said, “I would have loved to finish the game but that’s how you learn and move forward. About Trent, It’s my wife’s birthday also and it’s a perfect gift from him.”
