IND Vs NZ Live: Team India stands by Mohammed Shami – India skipper Virat Kohli hit back at trolls who singled out Mohammed Shami after India’s 10-wicket loss to Pakistan in the T20 World Cup opener. The experienced pacer was trolled and abused on social media platforms. While former cricketers backed Shami, Team India including senior players stayed silent on the matter. But a livid Virat Kohli has now hit back at them, saying they are a bunch of spineless individuals and “Team India stands by Shami”.
“There is a good reason why we are playing on the field and not them. Some bunch of spineless individuals with no courage or good work go after people on social media. This is the lowest an individual can operate at. They don’t have the courage to do what we do. Attacking someone over religion is the most pathetic thing human beings can do,” Virat Kohli said at the pre-match press conference ahead of New Zealand match on Sunday.
“All these dramas that were created outside were based on their lack of compassion, courage and empathy. We understand how to bounce back. We know how to bounce back. We never focused on the outside noise,” Kohli added.

InsideSport reported that it was BCCI’s instruction that prompted Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and others to stay silent over the matter despite being present on social media platforms. Facebook took down many comments from Facebook and Instagram but there were thousands on Twitter.
“It’s a pathetic thing to attack someone over religion. Everyone has the right to have an opinion but religion is sacred and it should be left out. They have no understanding of what we do. Shami is the primary bowler besides Bumrah in Test cricket. What he has done for Team India over the last few years is there for everyone to see. I don’t want to waste any time on them. We all stand by Shami,” Virat Kohli said.
