Devon Conway (38 not out) and skipper Kane Williamson, who was yet to open his account, were at the crease during the rain interruption. Devastating opening batsman Finn Allen (57 off 54) was the only wicket to fall for New Zealand. Right-arm pacer Umran Malik claimed Allen’s wicket.
Overall, only two matches in the six-ball white-ball series produced results. The series was organised less than a week after the T20 World Cup in neighbouring Australia.
Indian Batsman again FLOP – India Innings – 219 all out: India slid at a steady pace as the Kiwis’ regular strike crippled the top-order of visitors. Shubman Gill was first to depart followed by the skipper Shikhar Dhawan. Rishabh Pant (10) and Suryuakumar Yadav (6) were then removed quickly by the hosts to pile more misery on Men in Blue. The set No 3 batter Shreyas Iyer (49) departed shortly after as India lost half of their team halfway through the innings. Deepak Hooda and Deepak Chahar were the next to give their wickets cheaply.
For New Zealand, Adam Milne and Daryl Mitchell bagged three-wicket hauls respectively while Tim Southee claimed two wickets.
Kane Williamson bowled Adam Milne early so that he could begin the attack. And that bet by the Kiwi captain worked out pretty well as Milne bagged three wickets. Southee contributed with two scalps at the very end, but Mitchell, who came in as a utility bowler, surprised everyone with his three-for. New Zealand didn’t use spin until the 43rd over.
The home team won the toss and invited India to bat 1st. India has still persisted with Rishabh Pant as Sanju Samson again sits out. Deepak Hooda and Yuzvendra Chahal also keep their place:
