R Ashwin will now target former India captain Kapil Dev’s record of 434 wickets to become the second-highest wicket-taker for India in Test cricket. Anil Kumble is on top of the charts with 619 wickets.
Overall, R Ashwin has taken 625 wickets for India cross formats in 241 matches. Kapil Dev is the country’s third-highest wicket take across all formats with 687 scalps. Harbhajan Singh and Anil Kumble have 711 and 956 scalps respectively.
When it comes to Test records, Muttiah Muralitharan has taken most wickets among all bowlers with 800 wickets. Shane Warne of Australia is placed second with 708 scalps. Pacer James Anderson is placed third with 632 wickets. Glenn McGrath is also placed in top 5 list with 563 wickets.
Ashwin now needs 3 wickets to go past South Africa’s Shaun Pollock (421 wickets) and few more wickets to eclipse Richard Hadlee (431).
NOTE: R Ashwin has taken 30 five-wicket hauls and 10 wickets in a match for record 7 times (only 1 behind India’s Anil Kumble- 8 times 10WM).
