IND vs NZ LIVE: Axar Patel outshines Jadeja-Ashwin, triggers NZ collapse with five wicket haul

How New Zealand struggle against Axar Patel? Axar triggered a New Zealand collapse as he ran through the Kiwi batting line-up on Day 3.

After Ashwin broke the opening stand between Tom Latham and Will Young, it was an Axar Patel show, as he made full use of the conditions to register yet another Test fifer in his short but brilliant career so far. Patel had Tom Latham stumped on 95, before breaking the back of the visitors with the quick dismissals of Ross Taylor and Henry Nicholls.

Post tea, Patel continued to keep the New Zealand batsman at bay and got the better of keeper Tom Blundell, who had his defences breached with a peach of a delivery. Tim Southee, who picked up his own five-wicket haul in the first innings was incidentally Axar Patel’s fifth wicket as New Zealand further collapsed during the third session of the day. It was Axar’s fifth five-wicket haul in just seven innings, as he continues his meteoric start to his Test career, which kicked off against England earlier this year.

Ajinkya Rahane and Co. were staring down the barrel after the stellar opening stand by the Kiwi batters, but Patel’s brilliance ensured that India wrestled back control in the game.
