IND vs NZ LIVE: After facing poor air quality index (AQI) in Jaipur, Team India and Blackcaps were subject to fog during the opening Test on Thursday. As players took to the field, a thin blanket of smog (a combination of fog and smoke) covered them for some time during the opening session. As fans and spectators tuned in to watch the riveting contest, they were reminded of deteriorating air quality in North India. Some Twitter users soon took notice and shared the same on social media. The conditions are likely to stay the same on Day 2 of the ongoing Test. Follow India vs New Zealand LIVE updates on InsideSport

Former India cricketer and Punjab Kings batting coach Wasim Jaffer also took notice. He also shared a picture on social media saying, “Dhuaan dhuaan that voh samaa.”

The current AQI in Kanpur is 221 which falls under poor category. An AQI between zero and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 and 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 and 200 ‘moderate’, 201 and 300 ‘poor’, 301 and 400 ‘very poor’, and 401 and 500 ‘severe’.

Luckily, the dense layer enveloping the stadium were cleared as the day progressed with the rising Sun. The swinging conditions helped Kyle Jamieson provide New Zealand early breakthrough as Mayank Agarwal (13) got out early. New Zealand were well ahead with India 145/4 after second session but bounced back with Shreyas Iyer and R Jadeja fifties. At stumps, India’s scorecard read 258/4 as bad lights stopped play with the advent of winter.

The players would be hopeful of a better AQI on Day 2. India, in particular, would be hoping that Iyer and Jadeja continue the exploits as the hosts will be aiming for a big total. Kiwis would be critical of the prevailing air quality but like Day 1 will continue to take the field.

In a rare case, four years ago Sri Lanka players have played with pollution in a Test at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium (in 2017). The game was briefly stopped for around 20 minutes.
