If Rahul Dravid does decide to make changes then there is a Golden Opportunity for RCB star Shahbaz Ahmed to earn his return for Indore ODI. Shahbaz is likely to take the place of vice-captain Hardik Pandya who could be given a rest keeping the T20I series in mind. Besides Pandya, pacer Mohammed Siraj, and Kuldeep Yadav could also be rested.
IND vs NZ: Shahbaz Ahmed to replace Hardik Pandya
The 28-year-old Bengal and RCB all-rounder has already featured for India in three ODIs and done reasonably well with the ball. However, he is yet to show his batting abilities. Shahbaz is a proven batsman in domestic and IPL cricket and he will be eager to showcase his skill on the international stage.
While Shahbaz Ahmed will feature in the playing XI, his RCB teammate Rajat Patidar could once again warm the bench as it is unlikely that Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan will be rested. Patidar had previously been called up to the Indian team for the South Africa series right before the T20 World Cup in Australia. However, the Madhya Pradesh batsman did not feature in the playing XI.

Team India eye No 1 rankings in ODI
The IND vs NZ 3rd ODI will be a chance for men in blue to claim the top spot in the ODI format. India will climb to the top of the ICC rankings until the result of England’s away series against South Africa the following week. The results of the last ODI between India and New Zealand and England’s performance in the three-match series against the Proteas will determine how all of that plays out.
New Zealand came into the ODI series against India on the back of a comeback win over Pakistan on their own turf. However, with Tim Southee and Kane Williamson, the Blackcaps have hardly posed a challenge to the dominant Indian outfit in their home conditions. The Kiwis will look to save their face by winning the final ODI. However, India is in terrific form and will not settle for anything less than a whitewash.
