IND vs NZ 3rd Test: Pacer conundrum continues for Team India ahead of Mumbai Test

Team India would dearly want a win in the Mumbai Test to remain on the top spot of the WTC Standings

Just a day remains for the India vs New Zealand 3rd Test in Mumbai. And ahead of this match, there seems to be a conundrum regarding India’s pace attack. Reports have emerged that Jasprit Bumrah might be rested, and with Harshit Rana not added to the squad, it remains to be seen who pairs with Mohammed Siraj.

India has lost the Test series to New Zealand after going 2-0 down in the first two games. But the Mumbai Test is extremely important for the India Cricket Team. A win can see the hosts retaining their top spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) Standings.

Rest for Jasprit Bumrah?

If reports are believed to be true then Jasprit Bumrah is likely to be rested for the game. With the Border Gavaskar Trophy on the horizon, the team management has decided to rest the ace pacer to keep him fresh and fit for the IND vs AUS Test series. On the other hand, contrary to previous reports, Harshit Rana hasn’t been added to the India squad for the series against the Black Caps.

Moreover, the pitch at Wnakhede will assist the spinners, which means India will opt for two pacers instead of three. This means, if Jasprit Bumrah is rested, then Mohammed Siraj will make a return to the Playing XI and spearhead the charge. And he will partner with Akash Deep.

On the other hand, if in case Bumrah is not rested and he starts, then it will be an all-out attack with Bumrah and a returning Siraj. India have a huge priority in this Test match and would dearly want to win it. A loss will see them dropping to the second spot of the WTC Standings.
