What happened in the previous Test match at MCA Stadium?

The last Test played at the venue was when India hosted South Africa in October 2019, as a part of the World Test Championship (2019-21) cycle. Virat Kohli was the star of the show, as India posted a hefty 601/5 in the first innings. Kohli scored an unbeaten 254, while Mayank Agarwal scored a century (108). Cheteshwar Pujara (58), Ajinkya Rahane (59), and Ravindra Jadeja (91), all stepped up with half-centuries.

Faf Du Plessis (64) and Keshav Maharaj (72) scored the only half-centuries for the visitors, in the second innings. Trailing 602, the Proteans suffered a follow-on after being dismissed for 275.

Du Plessis & Co. were bundled for 189 in the follow-on innings, as India claimed a victory by an innings and 137 runs.

This was such a one-sided encounter that both Kohli and Rohit Sharma bowled in the match. However, Ravi Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers, bagging six wickets (4/69; 2/45) across both innings.
