IND vs NZ 2nd Test: Mumbai encounter emulates 132-year-old record after Virat Kohli returns to captain India

Virat Kohli won a rare toss, smiled gleefully and with the sun out for the first time in a couple of days in Mumbai, he wasted no time in opting to bat first. The coin toss event also saw a rare record being repeated after over a century in the oldest format of the game.

For only the second time in 132 years, a two-match Test series saw the involvement of four captains. The first time the rare incident had occurred was in 1889 when England had toured South Africa.

Aubrey Smith and Monty Bowden had led the English team in the first and second Test respectively as Owen Dunell and William Milton performed the duties for the Proteas in Port Elizabeth and Cape Town.

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson was replaced by his deputy Tom Latham in the match, whereas, Ajinkya Rahane – India’s captain in Kanpur, made way for Team India’s regular captain Virat Kohli.

Talking about the match, the second Test had a delayed start due to a wet outfield as the first session was washed off completely and early lunch was taken. A total of 78 overs is slated to be played today.

India have made three changes after the injuries of Rahane, Ravindra Jadeja and Ishant Sharma. Test champions New Zealand have brought in Daryl Mitchell in place of their batting mainstay Williamson.

India have the chance to win the match and seal the series 1-0 to dethrone New Zealand as the No. 1 ranked Test team in the world.
