IND vs ENG 4th Test: Umesh Yadav makes fine comeback – From being a regular in the Indian Test side, Umesh Yadav saw his fortunes dwindle with the likes of Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur performing well. His injuries too didn’t help. But with captain Virat Kohli giving him another opportunity, the pacer from Vidarbha made a stunning comeback to the Test side after 247 days and made an immediate impact scalping three wickets including the big one of Joe Root to help India fight back.

On Day 2, Umesh Yadav did the heavy lifting for the bowling department with two wickets for including Joe Root and a set Dawid Malan. On Day 2, he sent back Craig Overton early. But it was Joe Root’s wicket that would make even Jasprit Bumrah envy.

IND vs ENG 4th Test: His back of the length delivery around off stump sharply angled in and stunned Joe Root as the ball cleaned up his stumps. To breach the man-in-form Joe Root’s defence which other Indian bowlers have failed miserably in the series was a breath of fresh air. It was also something that could see Umesh Yadav retain his place in the 5th Test with Jasprit Bumrah likely to be rested.

IND vs ENG 4th Test: His third wicket on Day 3 also helped Umesh Yadav complete 150 Test wickets in 49 matches, a rare feat for an Indian pacer. He is only the sixth Indian pacer to achieve the feat after Kapil Dev (434), Zaheer Khan (311), Ishant Sharma (311), Javagal Shrinath (236) and Mohammed Shami (195).

However, considering he has played just 49 matches since making his debut back in 2011 against West Indies says a lot about his place in the team. But these three wickets will be a huge confidence booster for Umesh Yadav.

As for the match, England fought back after being down to 62/5 with Ollie Pope, Jonny Bairstow and Moeen Ali fighting back for the hosts.
