Former England cricketer Alastair Cook heaped praises on Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. Yashasvi on Friday played a crucial knock on the first day of the IND vs ENG 2nd Test. The Indian opener is unbeaten on 179 at the end of day one, and has the chance to score his first double hundred in Tests on the second day.
Yashasvi showed intent even as other Indian batters faltered in similar conditions. The southpaw’s innings had the right mix of aggression and calmness, as he scored runs with ease even as wickets kept faltering on the other end. The Indian batter was lone bright spot of Indian batting in an otherwise disappointing display.
Former England opener Alastair Cook was very appreciative of Yashasvi’s display, claiming Yashasvi showed maturity beyond his age.
“He’s delivered when his side need it. It was an innings of maturity and skill beyond his 22 years,” Alastair Cook told BBC.
“Yashasvi Jaiswal was absolutely outstanding. The rest of the India team were 158-6 on a pretty good wicket. If you take him out of the side their fragile batting line-up is still there,” Cook added.
Cook also wondered if England could take a different strategy against Jaiswal.
“I wonder if England could bowl a bit wider at him. It might leak some runs, but it would add more risk.” Cook said.
