IND vs ENG Test: Sunil Gavaskar backs Yashasvi Jaiswal to ‘easily settle’ at home

Apart from Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Abhimanyu Easwaran are the other two opening options that India has.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has already mightily impressed everyone in his short international career. The opener kicked off his Test career with a glorious 171 on his debut in the West Indies and followed it up with a half-century in his next innings. However, the southpaw couldn’t perform on his first tour to South Africa, scoring just 50 runs in four innings.

Yashasvi Jaiswal wasn’t questioned due to it being his first overseas tour in South Africa and the tough conditions in Centurion and Cape Town. But the opener will be under immense pressure to solidify his spot in the upcoming IND vs ENG Test series.

With Shubman Gill and Abhimanyu Easwaran both fighting for the same spot, the left-hander will be looking to stamp his authority.

Former Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar has also backed the 21-year-old to the opener spot on his own. Talking about how, being a left-hander and conditioned to play in India, Jaiswal will spot his own after the IND vs ENG series is done, he said:

“Yashasvi Jaiswal will easily settle in home conditions. He’s also a left-hander. I think he’ll establish himself completely in the Indian Test team after this series.”
