IND vs ENG Test: R Ashwin engages in heated conversation with on-field umpire after day’s play

IND vs ENG: Yashasvi Jaiswal and R Ashwin will have to ensure that they take India to a safe first innings total, on day two.

After a gripping first day of the second Test in Vizag, where hosts India scored 336/6, it can be assumed for now, that they are in the driver’s seat with centurion Yashasvi Jaiswal not out on 179. With him at the crease is all-rounder R Ashwin, whose contribution with the bat will be detrimental in taking India past 400.

On Friday, right after the final ball of the day was bowled, Ashwin was visibly unhappy with something, and straightaway went to have an animated conversation with the on-field umpire Marais Erasmus. As per a report in PTI, Ashwin wasn’t pleased about the fact that Erasmus wanted the former to cut short his chat with Jaiswal in between deliveries, closer to the end of play. Although the exact conversation between the two still remains unclear.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Lone Bright Spot

Out of the 336 runs scored on the day, Jaiswal alone scored 179, that only shows two things — the batsman’s dominance, and the others flopping. While there were no real demons in the pitch, the Indian batsmen threw away wickets at regular intervals, with none of them even managing to get to fifty, except for Jaiswal.

Shubman Gill gave glimpses of coming back to form with his quick 34, but was dismissed by James Anderson for the fifth time in his career. Debutant Rajat Patidar too came up with a small, little knock of 32. Shreyas Iyer was removed by Tom Hartley for 27.
