England top order batter Ollie Pope slammed his 5th Test century and his maiden vs India in the IND vs ENG Test. He became only the 4th English batter to manage a century in India since 2016. Adding more to accolades, this was Pope’s second Test century in Asia.
148* by Pope is the highest by a visiting batter in second innings vs India in India since Alastair Cook’s 176 in Ahmedabad in 2012 which incidentally came in the first Test of India’s last series defeat at home.
Back in 2022, Pope slammed 108 against Pakistan in Rawalpindi. But his ton in Hyderabad holds greater significance. Pope has taken the reins of England’s innings. He has now stitched a strong partnership with Ben Foakes to put England out of the danger zone.
