While the entire India Cricket Team is on a short break between IND vs ENG Test series, left-arm spinner Saurabh Kumar is playing Ranji Trophy for Uttar Pradesh. He was only called up for the 2nd Test after impressive returns in the India A vs England Lions matches. However, with Axar Patel, Washington Sundar apart from Ravichandran Ashwin in the squad, he has been deemed a surplus. He came in as a cover for injured Ravindra Jadeja.
Playing in Andhra vs Uttar Pradesh, Saurabh Kumar could only manage a wicket after bowling for 20 overs.
Saurabh Kumar bagged a fifer to power India A to a series win against England Lions. He also played a fine knock of 77 in that match. Before that, he bagged a four-fer against Bihar.
No other Indian players in Ranji Trophy
While KS Bharat and Mukesh Kumar were also under the scanner after poor showing in the IND vs ENG 2nd Test, they remain with India Cricke Team. Mukesh did not feature for Bengal while Bharat was not in Andhra squad.
Sarfaraz Khan and Washington Sundar are also on a break and did not play Ranji Trophy. Avesh Khan returned to Team India after he played a Ranji Trophy match for Madhya Pradesh.
More on IND vs ENG Test
Shubman Gill who had his last chance in IND vs ENG Vizag Test before playing Ranji slammed a century. Hence, he got a reprieve from playing in Ranji Trophy. Had he failed, he promised to return to domestic cricket and play for Punjab to work on his skills.
However, his century saved him from being dropped. And that means Cheteshwar Pujara is unlikely for the IND vs ENG Test series.
